Ms. Dorothea “Dot” Van Horn — 1946-2019

Ms. Dorothea “Dot” Van Horn, 73, of Valley, formerly of Lanett, passed away on Sept. 25 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. 

She was born on Sept. 23, 1946, in Valley to the late Willie Clyde “Dago” Pike and Marjorie Wilkinson Pike.

Ms. Van Horn is survived by her son and daughter in law, Kyle and Jennifer Van Horn, of Valley; her five grandchildren, Dylan, Tate, Rylee, Abby and Payton; her great-grandchild, Paisley Jane; her special daughter and her husband, Felicia and Jeff; her brother and his wife, Clyde and Janice Pike; her niece, Michelle; her great-niece, Rhinna; a host of cousins; numerous special friends that she loved dearly.

Over the years, Ms. Van Horn was employed with Bondcoat, she was a switchboard operator for Interstate Valley Telephone Company and for West Point Stevens Stores Division. She enjoyed crafting, drawing and painting. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who lived for her son and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. EDT at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett. Chaplain Colonel Gary R. Perry will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. EDT until the service hour at the funeral home.
