Point football falls to No. 13 Lindsey Wilson 34-9

COLUMBIA, KY. – Point University’s Football team traveled to Columbia, Ky. to compete against number No. 13 ranked Lindsey Wilson. 

The Skyhawks came up on the short end to a good team and lost 34-9. Point’s record now sits at 0-2 on the season. The Skyhawks came out strong in the second half of the game and scored a field goal and a touch down in the 4th quarter. 

“I was proud of our guys for playing hard for 60 minutes,” Point head football coach Julius Dixon said. “We made some improvements from last week, but we made too many critical mistakes today that cost us.”

The Blue Raiders led the Skyhawks 18 to 16 in first downs, and Point had a total possession time of 28:07. 

Lindsey Wilson led 14-0 at the end of the first half. Point had a total of 54 rushing yards. The Blue Raiders had a total of 137 rushing yards.

Total passing yardage for the Skyhawks was 224, completed 19 out of 36 attempts and no interceptions. 

Lindsey Wilson had a total of 272 passing yardage and completed 26 out of 35 with one interception by Micah Olgesby.  The Skyhawks had 1 fumble that the Blue Riders recovered and ran for 6 yards against Point.Point’s Wesley Ruberia made a field goal from 28 yards out in the fourth quarter.

The Skyhawks scored their only touch down in the fourth quarter with 9 minutes left. 

Marquez Jackson had a total of 46 rushing yards. Micah Maxey passed for 13 of 26 for 158-yards. Nick Partlow was 6 of 10 passing for 66-yards. Chase Turner returned for 32-yards. 

Carson McGinnis received 4 passes for 20-yards that led to 1 touchdown. C.J. Henderson caught 3 passes for 86-yards.

“Energy in the second half was incredible,” Henderson said. “We must start the game how we finished it. If we take out our mental mistakes and play a whole game with that same energy, I feel this team will continue to make great things happen.”

Jared Ollie had 8 unassisted tackles, 1 assisted. Isaiah McFarland had 3 unassisted tackles, 4 assisted.
Myles Hall-Hackett had 1 unassisted tackle, 6 assists. 

Gary Davis had 3 unassisted tackles and 3 assisted.

“We came out with a different energy this game,” Davis said. “We improved from game one but had too many costly mistakes that hurt us today. We are looking forward to playing at home this week.”

Next for Point, Southeastern Fire comes to Rams Stadium in Valley to take on the Skyhawks in their first home game of the season on Sept. 14 at 1:30 p.m.
