On Tuesday morning, the Troup County Fire Department received a donation of seven pet oxygen mask kits from Invisible Fence of Columbus.

According to a press release from the Troup County Board of Commissioners, the pet oxygen mask kits will be used to assist in the resuscitation of animals in the event of smoke inhalation caused from a fire.

The masks were donated as a part of Invisible Fence Brand’s Project Breathe Program that was designed to help reduce the number of pet fatalities each year by providing oxygen mask kits to fire departments and other first responders.

According to the release, each kit contains one small, medium and large mask to properly fit animals of all sizes or breeds.

Since 2006, Invisible Fence has donated more than 25,000 masks to first responders.

“We are grateful for this generous donation from Invisible Fence, which will provide us with an additional tool to help us better serve all aspects of life in Troup County,” said Fire Chief John Ekaitis in the press release. “This allows us to offer improved aid to the pets in our community, as many of them are very special to residents.”

Seven of Troup County’s fire rescue vehicles will now be equipped with the pet oxygen masks to help deliver oxygen to animals who are experiencing difficulty breathing in the event of fire and smoke inhalation.
