A few Chambers County events are available for kids Halloween Night.

The Valley Sportsplex is hosting trick-or-treat for area children from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Kids can go from table to table collecting treats from local businesses and churches. There will be inflatables and games.

If the weather is bad, the event will move inside the gym, according to Recreation Director Laurie Blount. For questions about the weather on Oct. 31, call (334) 756 5290 or check the Sportsplex’s, Facebook Page.

Kids may also choose to go trick-or-treating in their neighborhoods.

“If they go door-to-door, we ask that they honor the same hours, 6 to 8 p.m.,” Valley Police Chief Tommy Weldon said. “And be careful if you’re driving to look out for our trick-or-treaters,” he said.

The LaFayette Police Department will be giving out candy to trick-or-treaters from 5-7 p.m., “or until the candy is gone,” said LaFayette Police Captain Christopher Trice.

“We want all kids to be accompanied by parents during those hours,” he said.

Also, in LaFayette, Councilwoman Charlotte Blasingame said there would be trick-or-treating in downtown LaFayette for the first time in many years from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 31.

“It will only be an hour, but that will keep the kids from going to other cities,” Blasingame said.

She said the city has arranged for proper security so children can cross Highway 431, and the Chambers County Courthouse will hand out candy until 4:30 p.m. on Halloween.

Major T.J. Wood of the Chambers County Sheriff’s Department also recommends parents staying with their kids for trick-or-treating.

“Don’t let them go out on their own,” he said. “Make sure they wear something reflective if it’s getting dark, so that they can be seen.”

Wood said many area churches are having a trunk or treat event at different times on different days, so there are safe alternatives for kids.  Another option is a Touch-A-Truck event hosted by Lakeview Fire and Rescue Department in Lanett. Kids can trick-or-treat and touch a fire truck at 6 p.m. at the fire department at 3181 County Road 289.
