Mr. William Autrey “Bill” Bonner — 1935-2019

William Autrey “Bill” Bonner passed away at Florence Hand Home in LaGrange on Oct. 20.

He was born on Feb. 7, 1935, the only child of Clifford Roy Bonner and Ruby Dean Autrey Bonner.

Bill lived his entire life in the Valley area. He grew up and attended school in Lanett. He graduated from Lanett High School in 1954. In 1953, he married Ada Ruth Johnson. They were married for more than 66 years and had one son, Ronald Wayne “Ronnie” Bonner.

Bill spent his entire working career with West Point Stevens. Most of that time was spent at the Transportation Center as a freight consolidator and dispatcher. He retired in 2000 with 47 years of service. Bill was a member of Lanett Masonic Lodge No. 656, where he attained the 32nd degree. He enjoyed attending gospel singings and visiting with his friends at McDonald’s. Bill also managed a local musical group “FOX” during the 1970s. Bill was a member of Reed’s Chapel Baptist Church in West Point, where he served as a Deacon.

Bill was predeceased by his parents and one half-sister, Juanita Bonner Evans. He is survived by his wife, Ada Bonner; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Bonnie Bonner, of Valley; two grandsons, Casey Wayne Bonner, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Adam Coleman Bonner, of El Paso, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Ivelise Lorelai Bonner, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Lennox Jeremiah Bonner, of Wurzburg, Germany.

Visitation will be held at the Johnson Brown Funeral Home in Valley from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. EDT on Oct. 22. Graveside services will be at Shawmut Cemetery on Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. EDT with the Rev. Jeff McCartney officiating.
