Mrs. Paula Kay Simms — 1943-2019

Mrs. Paula Kay Simms, 76, of Lanett, passed away on Oct. 18 at the EAMC Lanier Nursing Home in Valley. She was born on Feb. 22, 1943, in Montgomery to the late LeRoy and Kathryn Soenksen.

Mrs. Simms is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jessie Donald “Duck” Simms; her three children, Keri Donald (Jenni Walton) Simms, Kelli Simms (Mark) Powers and Kadi Simms Dobson; her sister, Christy Hill; her nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Marita Friedman. She worked for William E. “Bill” Shirley for over 30 years. She loved her family, friends, and animals dearly.

She will be remembered for her kind heart, sweet smile, and always putting others before herself.

A memorial service will be held on Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. EDT at the Lanett First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Rusty Williams will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 1 p.m. EDT until the service hour at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Chattahoochee Humane Society, www.chatthumanesociety.org/donate, in her memory.
