LANETT —Lanett resident Haywood Jackson is fighting for his life.

In 2015, he was diagnosed with heart failure and received a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) to help keep him alive until he can get a new heart, according to a news release from the National Foundation for Transplants. 

On Saturday, Nov. 2, volunteers are hosting a fish fry fundraiser in Jackson’s honor.

It will begin at 8 a.m. and last until its sold out.

The price will be $10 per plate and will include two pieces of fish, coleslaw, fries, bread and dessert. The fundraiser will take place at the Old Lanett Mill parking lot, 409 S. 2nd Ave., in Lanett.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the National Foundation for Transplants in Jackson’s honor.

According to the NFT, the average heart transplant costs more than $1 million.
