Autumn Leaves show brings in 54 artists

VALLEY — A total of 54 artists and craftsmen participated in this past weekend’s 19th annual Autumn Leaves Art Show and Sale, held inside the Community Room at the Valley Community Center.

“This was a very successful event,” Valley Arts Council President Suzie Britt said. “We are so pleased to have had so many artists and craftspeople. Next year will be our 20th show, our 20th in the year 2020. We want to go all out to make it the best one we have ever had. We are already making plans for it to be really special. Each of our shows seems to grow in community interest and participation, both among the adults and the younger artists. We are pleased with that.”

Among the artists winning awards are June Wheat, Robert Franklin, Keith Moore, Dwayne Holmes, Mike Handley, Adrian Alsobrook, June Bird, Elaine Davis, Teresa Barnhill Rawls, Teri Roberts, Thomas Tingle, Jewellynn Quinton, Suzie Britt, Jennifer Day Emery, Marilyn Wall, Shelia Slavich, Kimberly J. Towler, Brandi Quinton, LuAnn Sims, Kodie Lee, Luise Leiba, Ron Cannon, Christin Cannon, Vivianne Audiss, Donna Cato, Rebecca Albarado, Diane Kaufman Trammell, Richard and Brenda Gray, Gene Houston, Reba Sanders, Shirley Aaron, Greg Clark, Chris Brown, Cedar House Creations, Rosa Ann Crowder, Evelyn Crowder, Sam’s Designs, Sylvia Van Hove, Brenda Taylor, Sheila Hornsby, Shirley Maddox, Chree Walker, Becky Hollis, Travis R. Stephens, Paula Maddox, Joan Gilbert, Peggy Gilmore, Amelia Stapler and A&R Designs.

Judging took place in 15 categories including oil painting, watercolor, acrylic painting, abstract, jewelry, woodturning and fine woodcraft, fine craft, mixed media, photography, writing, drawing, sculpture, fiber arts and floral design.

Britt is looking at having a show for writers this coming spring.

“We have some gifted writers both among the adults and youth in the local area,” she said. “We would like to spotlight them and their work in a special show.”

Several local authors who have had books published were at the Autumn Leaves show as well.
