LaFayette’s playoff run ends at Ariton

ARITON — LaFayette High School fell short in extending its season Friday night in the second round of the AHSAA 2A playoffs losing 30-12 to Ariton on the road.

The scoring got started with three minutes left in the first quarter when Ariton senior running back Bryan Smith scored on a 5-yard rush. A two-point conversion by Smith put the Purple Cats up 8-0.

After trading possessions, LaFayette struck back when senior quarterback Jordan Walker scored on a 79-yard touchdown run.

However, the missed two-point conversion kept the Bulldogs behind by two.

Smith scored again three minutes before half from three yards out, and struck again on the two-point try to put Ariton up 16-6.

LaFayette fumbled with two minutes left in the half, and it was picked up by Ariton. Smith scored from 5 yards out, making the score 23-6 going into the half.

On the first possession of the second half, senior running back Ke’Andrae Peterson scored on a 7-yard run.

However, the two-point try failed, leaving LaFayette down 23-12.

At the five minute mark of the third quarter, sophomore running back Zach Phillips scored from the 4-yard line for the final touchdown of the game, making the score 30-12.
