West Point Fine Arts hosts student competition

WEST POINT — The West Point Fine Arts Group hosted its second annual Student Art Competition Thursday night at the Depot.

According to West Point Fine Arts Director Thea McKay McElvy, five local high schools presented more than 50 pieces of work from students in grades nine through twelve.

“WPFA would like to thank the students, teachers and family for supporting our local arts,” McElvy said. “Also, a special thank you to Lori Harrell, the city of West Point for the use of the Depot and Steve Tramell for presenting the awards.”

She said any high school students or teachers who would like to participate in the event next year can contact her at thea.mcelvy@gmail.com.

In the ninth-grade division, Alex James of Valley High School won first place. Jana Lee Houser of Wadley High School won second and Yaniia Davidson, also of Valley, won third.

For the tenth grade, Daisy Scalf of Valley took home top honors. Donna Fields of Olive Plant Homeschool won second place and Chloe Harrell of LaGrange Academy won third. Garrison Brown of Valley, Rebecca Basie of Olive Plants, Rabe Lawson of LaGrange Academy and Riley Whitlow of LaGrange Academy all received honorable mention.

In eleventh grade, Chloe Daughtery of Troup High School won first place, Zoie Mitchell of LaGrange Academy won second and Esther Shiflet of Valley High School won third place.

Skylar Hanson, Nick Taylor and Kylee Smith of Valley High School, along with Ambreonia Garner received honorable mention.

Finally, in the twelfth grade, Elizabeth Cooper of Troup High School took home top honors. Cheyenne Colley of Troup High School finished second, while Kaitlyn Davis received third place.

Emma Dallas and Alyssa Phillips from Troup High School, as well as Hayden Quinton and Brianna Fuller of Valley High School, all received honorable mention.

Ben Pemberton of Olive Plant Homeschool received the best of show award.
