Ms. Leona Cummings Jenkins

Ms. Leona Cummings Jenkins peacefully passed away to her eternal home on Friday, Dec. 27, 2019, at her home in Lanett, Alabama. She was born on Oct. 18, 1917, in Wedowee.

Ms. Jenkins was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Huguley. She was best known for her kindness to everyone she met. She was a very dedicated and hard worker with many years worked in textiles. She was a very talented cook and took great pride in feeding and providing for her family and loved ones. In addition, she had an amazing green thumb and grew beautiful plants throughout the years.

Ms. Jenkins is survived by daughters, Linda (Allen) Hinkle and Katrina (Bill) Morris; her six grandchildren, Julie (Lee) Smith, Matt Hinkle, Holli Hinkle, Steve (Cheryl) Canada, Tammy (Bill) Graham, Renee Davis, and Crystal Canada; fifteen great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren; and her sister, Wilma Mickler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oye and Annie Cummings; her son-in-law, Larry Canada; her siblings, Gladys Young, Winston Cummings, Charlie Will Cummings, Juanita Poole and Dot Story.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019, at 2 p.m. (EST) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Interment will follow in Johnson Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Harold Cummings and the Rev. Ronnie Jordan will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. (EST) until the service hour at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Compassus Hospice in Auburn, Alabama, www.compassus.com/about-us/giving-and-donations , in memory of Ms. Jenkins. The care and compassion of the Compassus staff was very much appreciated.
