Mr. Douglas Neil Cummings

Douglas Neil Cummings, 85, of Lanett, Alabama passed away on Saturday, Dec. 28,2019, at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Neil was born in Lanett, to the late George and Bessie Mae Cummings on Sept. 4, 1934. He was a lifelong resident of Lanett where he attended Lanett City schools and then went to work at West Point

Pepperell Lanett Bleachery and Dye Works. He then transferred to West Point Transportation where he worked for Reverend David Bradshaw. Neil was a member of West Point Pepperell “50 Year Club.”

His hobbies included gardening where he loved sharing with his friends and neighbors. His other love was attending Valley High School ballgames and Talladega races with his grandson, Mikey.

Neil was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jack and Billy Cummings; sisters Kathleen Harper, Christine Pitts and Phyllis LaVerne.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Gracie Cummings; daughter Debbie Turner; grandson Mikey Turner; and granddaughter Caitlyn Turner.

The family will greet friends for Visitation on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020, at 1 p.m. EST at Bluffton Funeral Services in Lanett. Funeral Services will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. EST also at Bluffton Funeral Services. Graveside services will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Lanett.

Reverend David Bradshaw and Anthony Stone will officiate.
