An upcoming event in Valley will give locals a chance to bowl for a good cause.
Valley Bowl and Hair Studio 121 are hosting a bowling tournament at 6:30 p.m. ET on March 19 to benefit Relay for Life, which raises money for the American Cancer Society.
This is an event the bowling alley has been holding for years, and it’s a great way to give back.
The cost is $60 per team, with four members per team bowling two games apiece.
We wrote last year about James and Harry Caldwell, the owners of Valley Bowl, who have both had cancer scares in the past, which shows this is more than just a fundraiser to them.
“I think I’ve done wrong not letting other people know I had cancer,” James said in 2019. “You need to let people know you don’t have to die when you have cancer. You can continue to fight to live, so that’s the reason why I’m out with it now more than I was before.”
James had prostate cancer and basal cell cancer on his face.
“When they told me I had cancer, it was like somebody hit me in the stomach,” James said last year.
Harry had squamous cell carcinoma in his head and neck 12 years ago. He had to go through chemotherapy and radiation because doctors couldn’t determine where the cancer started.
This is a great cause and we hope any bowlers in the community will sign up. The Caldwells and Hair Studio 121 are hosting it to give back and we hope to see a big crowd there that night. Just about everyone has had cancer affect their life in some way, whether you’ve had cancer yourself of a family member has had the disease.
For more information on the tournament, call Valley Bowl at (334) 768-2729 or Hair Studio 121 at (706) 590-1723. The first-place team will be awarded a certificate, but the big winner will be Relay for Life, who will be able to help others dealing with cancer with the proceeds.
