Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded $24,000 to the LaFayette Police Department, according to a press release from the governor’s office.

The LaFayette Police Department will use the funding to purchase body cameras, protective vests and other miscellaneous items to replace worn out equipment, according to the press release.

The grants were awarded from funds supplied to the state through the U.S. Department of Justice. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants.

The Jacksonville Police Department also received $23,985 as part of the announcement for Tasers.

“Gov. Ivey is so appreciative of the work of Alabama’s law enforcement agencies and the individual officers, deputies and others who wear a badge,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA is pleased to join with the governor in supplying these funds.”
