Mrs. Emma Jean Shiver Dyess, age 89, of Spanish Fort passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, at her residence. She was born on Aug. 2, 1930, in Brundidge to the late Clarence and Pauline Shiver.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband of sixty-three years, Lonza Mayes Dyess. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Dyess (Bob) Holley; her grandsons, Clint (Brandie) Holley and Kyle Holley; her sister, Irene Kelley; and her brother, Ronnie Shiver.

Mrs. Dyess was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lanett. She and her husband were charter members of the Vagabond Camping Club. She retired from West Point Pepperell’s Fairfax towel warehouse in 1992. In 2008, Mr. and Mrs. Dyess moved to Mobile, Alabama to be closer to their daughter and family.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020, at 1 p.m. (EST) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Lanett interment will follow in Johnson Memorial Gardens in Valley. The Reverend David Bradshaw will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday from noon until the service hour at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Lanett.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Cypress Shores Baptist Church, 4327 Higgins Road, Mobile, AL, 36619 or to the charity of one’s choice in her memory.
