Ida Mae Ridgeway was born on Aug. 20, 1938, to the late Heck and Pauline Smith Ridgeway. She was affectionately known as “Lil Sister” “Sister” and “LuLu” by those that knew her well.

At an early age she accepted Christ joining Keeney Memorial United Methodist Church. She served many auxiliaries and was very active in her church. She served on the usher board and manned her post well. She was active in Sunday School and made her mark on the Keeney Memorial Family during her time there. Ida loved her church family very much.

In 1957, she graduated from Harrison High School in West Point, Georgia.

Ida would later settle down with the late Nemrod Duncan Moore Sr. Born to them were four beautiful children, Michael, Emma, Nemrod, Jr. and Annie Louise. Ida spent many years building a home for her family, raising her children along with her nephew and nieces; Joseph Billingslea, Fannie Billingslea, Jennie Trammell and Paula Davidson. Among those that she reared as her own were Mark Hairston, Tanya Gates and Zaatari Truitt. She was never a stranger to helping in the rearing of children.

Ida worked for West Point Pepperell and then later began working as a private housekeeper and caregiver for many families in the West Point area.

In her later years, she focused on helping families with special needs children where she finished out her working days. After retirement, she enjoyed visiting friends, fishing, crossword puzzles, walking, going to gospel concerts, and visiting the First Methodist Church programs offered to seniors in West Point. She moved to Williamsburg, Virginia in 2013 and enjoyed her time there with her youngest son, Nemrod Moore Jr. and his family. 

Ida gained her wings and entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, at Envoy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Williamsburg, Virginia.

Ida was predeceased in death by her dear and loving  husband, her parents, a daughter, Annie Louise, sister, Dorothy Ridgeway Ebanks, and brother-in-law, James Ebanks.

Ida leaves to cherish her loving memories, her three children, Michael (Connie) Moore, Douglasville, Georgia, Emma (Luther) Houston, Jr., West Point, Georgia and Nemrod(Gwendolyn)Moore, Jr., Williamsburg, Virginia; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a friend like a sister, Ms. Sweeyne Scott, West Point, Georgia; Special friends,Yvonne Mikuta, Gladys Hill, Sandra Jones, Penny Booker, Marilyn Marshall, Joyce McLemore, Vivian Heard, Nylon Winston and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.

Extended families: The Lovelace Family of West Point, Georgia, Mr. Bill  Scott and  Family, The Thompson Family, Gainesville, Georgia, the Barber (Cody Barber) family, Mr. & Mrs. W.O. Lance, Doug Shumate and family all of Lanett.

A celebration of life service for Mrs. Moore will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020, at noon in the sanctuary of the Keeney Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brenda Pritchett Rhodes, Pastor, Overseer G.L. Fanning, Eulogist, the Rev. Winston Fanning, the Rev. Billy Drake, Rev. Charles Trammell, Rev. Chalton Askew, assisting. Interment will follow in the Marseilles Cemetery.

The remains will lie in state at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the funeral.

The family will be at the residence of Luther, Jr.  and Emma  Houston, 188 Horseshoe Bend Road, West Point, Georgia 31833.
