Mr. Ned Edward Burton was born on November 23, 1928, to John E. and Myrtis S. Burton of Abanda. Burton passed away peacefully on April 24, 2020, in the EAMC in Valley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Nell Patterson (Grady), his first wife, Nan F. Burton and his second wife, Dovie T. Burton. Burton is survived by his son, Steven Edward Burton of Valley, his daughter, Debra Burton Estby (Chris) of Advance, North Carolina and his son James Richard Burton of Lanett. Burton is also survived by his grandchildren, Christina Raiford (Derek), Christopher Ryan Estby, Matthew Burton Estby (Katie), Laurie Lyn Burton and James Mitchell Burton and great-grandchildren Sky Raiford, Brenna Raiford and Treston Raiford.

Burton is also survived by his brothers Frank Burton (Janice) of Dadeville, Durward Burton (Lee) of Hoover, Jack Burton of Camp Hill  and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Burton was a veteran of the Korean War and was a Radio Operator during his service. He was honorably discharged as a Sargent with a Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal, Three Bronze Service Stars and a Distinguish Unit Citation.

Burton worked for the Carnation Milk Company, Liberty National Life Insurance Company, the former Valley Realty in West Point for numerous years and was an Agent, Broker and Appraiser. When he and Nan moved to Dadeville, he worked for Century 21 as an agent until he retired at the age of 80.

Burton loved the Lord and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lanett. He was a Baptist his whole life. He loved attending Sunday School and especially loved the music and social gatherings.

Burton was a kind and generous man; he loved his family unconditionally. He loved fishing, hunting, playing Domino’s and the card game Rook. He learned to be a very competitive player from his mother in card games and if you were not playing seriously enough to suit him, he would let you know!

The family would like to thank Amber Griggs (Administrator) and staff of Valley Park Manor for making his last few years enjoyable and enabling him to live close to his family. We would like to thank all of the wonderful and caring nurses and physician’s assistant’s at EAMC in Valley. They were a comfort to him and his family at the end.

Given the current COVID-19 travel concerns, social distancing and out of concern for the safety and health of family and friends, a private gravesite ceremony will be held. A celebration of life service is pending and will be considered at the appropriate and safe time.

In lieu of flowers the family requests any donations in his memory be made to First Baptist Church Lanett or to Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Camp Hill. Jeff Jones Funeral Home is handling therrangements.
