VALLEY — A Chambers County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been suspended after being in a one-vehicle traffic accident early Saturday morning.

According to a Valley Police Department report, Jonathan Wesley Rudd, 34, of Valley has been charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and reckless endangerment.

According to the report, Rudd’s vehicle ran off the road, hit a sign and a small tree. Someone stopped to check on him and “he drove toward their vehicle.”

They then notified police, the report continued, and Valley officers reported to the location. They located his vehicle, a red Jeep Wrangler, on Fob James Drive.

“Rudd was intoxicated,” the report reads, “and was arrested at 12:59 a.m. EDT. He refused to take a breath test and was transported to (jail in) Tallapoosa County.”

When contacted by The Valley Times-News, Chambers County Sheriff Sid Lockhart said that Rudd had been suspended from the department pending an investigation.

“We will look at videos of the incident,” he said, “and will take whatever action we need to.”

Rudd has been a deputy with the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office for five or six years. He was off duty at the time of the mishap.
