Derrick Lanardo Woody, the son of Tommy Woody and Sarah Woody, was born on Feb. 11, 1971, and departed this life on July 14, 2020, at his residence in Washington, DC.

At an early age, Derrick joined the Mount Hermon Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Louis Upshaw where he attended Sunday School and was a member of the Upshaw Choir.

Derrick was a member of the Valley High School Class of 1989. He was also a 1994 graduate of Auburn University and 1996 graduate of Harvard University.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Nathan and Carrie Flournoy, Booker T. (Mary Lee) Woody, and Lillian (Oscar) Dunn and many other relatives and friends.

His life memories will be cherished by his sisters, Toni (Jerome) Walker and Cathy Woody Turner, both of Lanett;  brother, Sterling (Tameka) Woody, Raleigh, North Carolina; uncles, Roosevelt (Louise) Flournoy, Charlie (Corinthian) Woody, John T. (Patricia) Woody, Lanett,  Lee (Deborah) Woody, Atlanta; aunts, Shirley (Sammie) Cleaves, Atlanta,  Sarah Dunn, Lanett, Mary Dell Williams, Boston, Marion Marshall and Barbara Rowe, Lanett, Martha Thomas, Greenville, North Carolina, Linda Flournoy Peterson, Lanett; nephews, Phidoski (Erica) Woody, Jamario Turner, Sterling Woody II; nieces, Shakera Stiggers, Aerial Woody, and Aysia Woody; great-nephews, Kaiden and Giaxon Woody; great-nieces, Khyli Arrington and Kamryn Lockhart and a host of cousins, other  relatives and friends.

A private viewing for immediately family will be held on Friday, July 24, 2020, from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the mortuary.

The family has requested potted floral arrangements.
