UPDATED: One dead, suspect detained in Saturday shooting in Valley

In a press release from the Valley Police Department, on Jan. 29 at approximately 5:30 P.M., officers were called to a residence in the 5800 block of 19th Avenue in reference to a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found Antavious Walton, 16 years-old of Valley, unresponsive on the floor of his bedroom. Walton had received a single gunshot wound to the torso. Once the scene was secure EAFD EMS entered the scene and found that Walton had died.

The scene was turned over to Valley Investigators who processed the scene and interviewed witnesses and the shooter.

The shooter, identified as a 17-year-old male of Valley. According to the release, witnesses told Investigators that the 17-year-old was attempting to unload the weapon when it fired and that the shooting was accidental.

A shooting in the Langdale area Saturday left one dead. Valley Police Chief Mike Reynolds confirmed to the Valley Times-News the suspect has been detained.

Reynolds is expected to release a statement Sunday.
