Cold weather in store for Chambers County this week

Overview:  Cold weather will be in place for much of this week. A low pressure system will move along the Gulf Coast Thursday night through Friday leading to the potential for rain and a winter mix across most of Central Alabama. 
Specific accumulations and areas impacted remain uncertain at this time as a 2 – 3 degree temperature difference in this situation will lead to significant changes in the forecast. 
Changes from previous forecast: Introduced a winter impact area.

What:
  • Snow accumulations of 0.5′ – 2″  (significant uncertainty exists in this range)
  • Light ice accumulations possible
Where:
  • Northern half of Central Alabama with the greater potential for accumulation across the far northern tier of counties.
When:
  • Early Friday morning through the evening
Impacts:
  • Travel conditions may be impacted across the northernmost counties (Elevated impact area in graphic)
  • Bridges and overpasses may become slick along the I-20 corridor (Limited impact area in graphic)
