‘Remain positive:’ LHS Support staff of the year shares

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Valley Times-News is doing a Q&A with all of the support staff of the year in the Chambers County School System. Today, we are writing about Sha’Britteny Williams, a Parapro at LaFayette High School. We asked her 20 questions, and we included some of our favorite responses below.

Sha’Britteny Williams, a Parapro for LaFayette High School, has worked in education for the past four years, serving at the high school level.

She is currently working to complete her bachelor’s degree at GCU.

In addition to her work and studies, Williams is a mother of three, her two sons and one daughter.

At ages 13, 11 and 8, they all attend Eastside J.P. Powell Magnet School.

On top of her job in the classroom, Williams has volunteered her after hours for the past three years to sports, working the concession stand at basketball and football home games.

What inspired you to become an educator? (Or who?)

“Teaching has been my dream/goal since elementary.”

If you weren’t a teacher, what career field would you be in?

“I would be a caretaker for my 91 year old great grandma.”

If your teaching style had a theme song, what would it be?

“Expect Your Miracle by The Clark Sisters.”

What’s the most creative/unique project one of your classes has worked on?

“Mastering the goal of getting their driver’s permit.”

If you could invite any historical figure to speak to your class, who would you choose and why?

“Coach Grant; someone who has made a difference in my life. Talking to me about realities of life and never judged me for my wrong decisions.”

What’s the most rewarding part about your job?

“Being able to step in and help the teachers and students as needed.”

What’s the most challenging part of your job?

“At LHS, we work together to ensure that no one is struggling.”

What did it mean to you to be named your school’s teacher of the year?

“It meant a lot to me to get recognized by the faculty, staff and students at LHS. I am very grateful.”

On a weekend or a summer day when school is out, what are your favorite activities?

“Vacation and road trips with my daily is what I enjoy most during summer break.”

As your students transition to the next grade or graduate in May, what is one key takeaway you hope they carry forward from their time in your class?

“Nothing is impossible as long as you stay focused and have the proper mindset. Remain positive through it all.”
