From Chambers County EMA:
A Winter Storm Watch is issued for Jan. 21 from 6:00 AM CT to Jan. 22 6:00 AM for Chambers County, AL. More information.
* WHAT…Light to moderate snow is forecast with total accumulations
up to three inches possible.
* WHEN…From Tuesday morning through late Tuesday night.
* IMPACTS…Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be very difficult.
The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes, as well as the Wednesday morning commute.
Cold Temperatures: Arctic air is spilling into the area today. This will correspond with gusty winds to produce wind chill values in the single digits to lower 10s tonight into the morning commute Monday. Similar conditions are forecast Tuesday morning with wind chills in the single digits to upper 10s. Impacts to people, outdoor water pipes, animals, and plants are possible throughout the prolonged period of frigid temperatures tonight through at least Thursday.
Winter Weather: Probabilities for accumulating snow continue to increase across much of Central Alabama Tuesday into Tuesday night due to a low pressure system in the Gulf. Our official amounts have changed somewhat, but impacts to roadways remain the same. With temperatures falling into the 10s and 20s Tuesday night, travel impacts could develop anywhere snow accumulations occur.
Changes from previous forecast: Various changes to temperatures and wind chills, as well as snow accumulations. We have issued an Extreme Cold Warning and a Winter Storm Watch.
