A new year means new opportunities to donate blood to local donation centers.

Giving blood once can save several lives. According to LifeSouth, you can donate whole blood every 56 days. After donation, the blood is separated into three components: red blood cells, platelets and plasma.

LifeSouth Community Blood Centers have several blood drives scheduled for the week of Feb. 10 to Feb. 16 in the East Alabama and West Georgia area.
