LANETT — In celebration of Black History Month, Goodsell Methodist Church had a “Pull Up a Chair” community service project on Saturday morning.
They had a well-attended pancake breakfast starting at 9:30 a.m. and continuing till the noon hour. Travis and Angela Hargett did the cooking on a grill just outside the church building, and a host of volunteers in the kitchen area put together lots and lots of to-go plates including pancakes and syrup, sausage, grits and fresh fruit.
Many people came to pick up plates at the church, and a special effort was made to take plates to those who are homebound or homeless.
Rev. Kelsey Barnes is the pastor of Goodsell, where the motto is “A Church on the Move.”
The Bible verse for the special day is from Titus 2:11-12: “This is the way we should live because God’s grace that can save everyone has come. It teaches us not to live against God nor to do evil things the world wants is to do. Instead, that grace teaches us to live in the present age in a wise and rightful way and in a way that shows we serve God.”
Sunday worship services throughout the month will be family focused while embracing arts and culture. Featured will be presentations and discussions entitled “Follow the drinking gourd,” “Grandma’s Quilt” and “Black Moses.”
Sunday School at Goodsell starts at 9 a.m. EST with the morning service beginning at 10:30. For more information, contact Rev. Barnes at (706) 386-0571 or Education Chair Trudye Johnson at (706) 957-9722.
