Grand Jury releases inspection report for Chambers County Detention Center

The Grand Jury released their semiannual inspection report on the Chambers County Detention Center and Courthouse.

The grand jury conducted physical inspections of the jail and found, “it to be adequately ventilated and suitable for the care and custody of inmates.”

They recommended a “complete renovation” be done at the Detention Facility to address the following problems:

4 On the old side of the jail, fresh paint is needed and walls need to be cleaned

4 Tiles in the hallway need replacing

4 All booking should be moved to one location

4 The kitchen is too small

4 The heating system in the jail needs to be replaced

4 Jail security observation area smells like mold

The grand jury also inspected the courthouse and recommended a microphone or audio system was needed for courtroom witnesses.

The report was sent to Circuit Judge Isaac Wharton and filed by Circuit Clerk Lisa Burdette on Feb. 21.
