The Lanett Panthers were on the big stage Tuesday afternoon. The girls basketball team faced off against Highland in the state tournament game hosted at Alabama State University.
Lanett had a lot of chances early, maintaining possession well. But they struggled to score and get second chances. They were 4 for 16 in the first half.
Despite the missed chances, Lanett led in both the first and second. They went into the locker room up 14-13.
The Panthers tightened up in the third. Led by Senior MaKiah White Lanett to pull away from Highland early in the third. White had to be subbed out for fouls, and Highland closed the gap to make it 22-21 going into the final frame.
A free throw and quick layup a couple of minutes into the fourth quarter put Highland up for the first time since the first.
A couple of steals by 2 put the Squadron up nine. In the end, Lanett wasn’t able to bridge the gap, and Highland won 39-32.
White led the team with 12 points, followed by Christina Brock and Makayla Davis with five apiece.
Lanett ends their season with an area championship and an impressive 19-7 record. Congrats on a great season Panthers!
