The Rebels picked up a road win against Macon East on Friday, triggering the mercy rule in a 15-4 rout.

The Knights struck first. The speedy Macon-East side got two bunt singles to start the game. A wild pitch scoots them over and a sacrifice ground out gives Macon-East the first lead of the game. Another sacrifice grounder would put the home team up 2-0 going into the bottom of the first.

The Rebels offense called and raised. Landon hand started the fun with a line-drive double, turning it into a triple on an error. A walk of Peyton Yerta puts the tying run on base. Drew Sheppard brought Hand home with a hard grounder and forced the throw to second, allowing Yerta to get home, for a two RBI at bat.

Three walks, a hit by pitch and a sac-fly saw Chambers take the lead and extend it to 4-2 going into the second inning.

Macon East would reclaim a run on a sac-fly, but would not retake the lead in the inning. The Rebels continued to roll thanks to an error and another Shephard double making it 5-3. Then, with bases loaded, Tucker Thrower singles, to bring home two more runners. Small ball set up an electric moment. A home run from Luke Tarver caps off the big inning, putting the game out of reach at 13-3.

Despite putting the three runners on base with one out, Gooden and the Chambers Defense only gave up one run in the third. The bottom of the inning was uncharacteristically quiet for Chambers, only getting a walk.

The Rebels sent down the Knights in order for a fast top of the fourth. Three quick hits, including an RBI single by Yerta would close out the scoring, 15-4 in favor of Chambers.

Gooden got the win as Chambers’ pitcher. Tarver walked away with three RBIs and two hits. Sheppard and Yerta both had two RBIs on two hits. Seven of the Rebels in the line-up made contact, with six tallying RBIs.

Chambers is back on the road on Saturday to take on Bessemer Academy at 1 p.m. CT.
