Chambers Academy went down to Lanett and picked themselves up a win. The Rebels beat Springwood 14-3 after a Tuesday night showdown between the rivals.

It was a quiet first inning for both sides. Chambers played small ball in the top of the second to get on the board first. A four-ball walk of Colton Fuller got the scoring runner on base. A single to center field by Tucker Thrower advanced Fuller to third with only one out. Thrower would be caught stealing second by Springwood’s catcher Russell Lauderdale to give the Wildcats breathing room. However, Fuller would steal home to put Chambers up before they could retire the side.

The Wildcat’s offense couldn’t put together a response in the third as the batters were sent down in order. The defense also struggled.

A Springwood error in the third inning allowed Bryce Modling to get on base. Two passed balls in a row allowed the speedy runner to score, putting Chambers up 2-0. Another error and a hit-by-pitch later in the inning put on two runners and another two-out at-bat for Chambers. A line drive to left field by Eli Whorton brings in Peyton Yerta to extend the Rebels’ lead to 3-0.

The Wildcat’s momentum was poised to shift in the top of the fourth when Lauderdale tagged out Modling at the plate for the final out of the inning. However, the Springwood bats weren’t able to capitalize.

The Rebels, on the other hand, started swinging. Back-to-back singles at the top of the fifth by Yerta and Luke Tarver gave Chambers the chance to shut down the game early. Yerta was caught stealing home once again by Lauderdale. But, another line drive by Whorton brought Tarver home. Fuller’s ground ball single put the Rebels up 5-0 in five innings.

The sixth saw only one hit for the Rebels but three walks to allow for an easy run. The seventh is when Chambers’ offense put an exclamation point on the game. Four walks and three back-to-back-to-back singles put the game away 14-0 in the LaFayette team’s favor.

Springwood did have a spark in the bottom of the inning. A single by Julian Karbe brought home a walked runner from earlier in the inning. Another single by Moon scores Karbe before the comeback is halted. Chambers would come out with the 14-3 win in the end.

Nine Rebels tallied a hit, led by Fuller with three hits and two RBIs in his four at-bats. Whorton and Jon Caulfield had two hits apiece. Chamber’s starting pitcher, Sam Smith, had a great day on the mound with a little over six innings pitched and only allowing five hits and two runs.

Karbe and Bentley Hussey of Springwood both had a two-hit game. Karbe and Luke Moon also tallied RBIs on Tuesday.

The Wildcats will have a chance to bounce back as they take on the Rebels on their turf, Wednesday night at 5:00 p.m. CT in LaFayette.
