Troup County School System announces Dedra “DD” Siggers as the School Nurse of the Year in a congratulatory celebration at Long Cane Middle School.
Siggers has worked as a nurse with the Troup County School System since August 2020. Prior to joining TCSS, Siggers worked for Emory Surgery Center in LaGrange and has 20 years of nursing experience and expertise in other areas.
To qualify for the “School Nurse of the Year” award, school nurses must have two years of experience as a school nurse, currently practicing as a school nurse, and spend more than 50% of their time providing direct care. The award is determined through a peer vote and based on excellence in school nursing practice, as outlined in School Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice.
When asked what this honor means, Siggers said, “I’m truly honored to be a school nurse, it reflects my passion for nursing and making a difference in students’ lives. Being a school nurse is more than just bandaids and ice packs. It’s making sure the students are healthy, supported, safe, and loved.”
