EAMC reminds homeowners to check smoke alarms after two separate fires destroy homes in Valley

East Alabama Fire District received the report of a structure fire at a residence in the 1300 block of County Road 196 in Valley around 9:45 am Wednesday morning 3/12/2025. EAFD units were notified of an occupant still inside the residence while enroute.
EAFD units arrived on scene within minutes, to find smoke coming from the residence. One occupant who was able to self-rescue, was transported to EAMC in Opelika by EAFD EMS.
An offensive fire attack was initiated, but due to structural collapse units adjusted the attack to a defensive attack and the fire was extinguished.
The residence received heavy fire damage and is considered a total loss.
EAFD would like to remind all homeowners within our Fire District to make sure they have working smoke alarms in their home, and if they need any to please give them a call at 334-756-7178 to schedule installation of their free smoke alarms.
Later on Wednesday, East Alabama Fire District received the report of structure fire at a residence on Chambers Drive in Valley.
Around 03:02 pm Wednesday afternoon EAFD units arrived on scene within minutes, to find heavy flames and smoke coming from the front of the structure.
An offensive fire attack was initiated, and the fire was extinguished. No occupants were home at the time of the fire. The structure received heavy fire damage throughout and is considered a total loss. There were no injuries reported.
