Springwood’s Shalexia Little has been put on the shortlist for the AWSA Miss Basketball Alabama list. The list takes the top talent from the first-team All-State players from their respective divisions, announced on Saturday, to see who is the best of the best.

The selection for the best girls basketball player in Alabama, Miss Basketball, will be announced on April 17 during the AWSA luncheon at the Montgomery Renaissance.

Little, along with two other AISA players, Diamond Chankio (North River) and Lexie Smith (Edgewood), will be up for the AISA Player of the Year award. This award will also be announced at the luncheon.

The senior guard has a stack of accomplishments during her career with the Wildcats. In both her junior and senior years, she was named to the AISA All-State first team. Little was an integral part of Springwood’s state championship run this season and was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts. Her talent has taken notice. In December, Little signed with Montevallo to continue her basketball career in college.

Over her 21 games played this season, Little totaled 422 points, 141 rebounds and 35 assists. She averaged just over 20 points per game. On the defensive end, she consistently went after the ball with 45 steals this year and 13 blocks. Forcing fouls drove up her point total as she made 48 of the 73 free throws attempted.
