On March 9th, 2025 at 6:30 AM deputies with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Interstate 85 Southbound near mile marker 21 reference to a person that had possibly been shot. When deputies arrived they located a vehicle parked on the side of the Interstate occupied by the victim, a 56 year old male who was bleeding from the eye of what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a Columbus area hospital for treatment.

Investigators with the Criminal Investigation Division were notified and after speaking with the victim have determined at this time that an unknown male driving a silver car possibly a Hyundai or KIA SUV, cut the victim off in traffic several times in what was described as road rage. The suspect then fired several shots at the victim’s car with one striking him in the head near his eye. The unidentified suspect continued traveling south on Interstate 185.  

At this time the suspect and vehicle have not been located and this appears to be an isolated incident involving the suspect and the victim. Anyone with information is asked to call our Criminal Investigations Division at 706-883-1616 to Troup County Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.
