LaFayette’s Quintavious Lloyd signed on to play collegiate football at LaGrange College on Thursday.
A big draw for Lloyd was the close distance to his community in LaFayette.
“LaGrange is just down the road, they can come see me anytime they want,” he said. “When I went to my visit two weeks ago, the coaches, the campus, everything was just great. The coaches understand me as a player and also as a person.”
Lloyd is a unique recruiting case. After taking a break from football in middle school, the wide receiver returned to the game during his senior year.
“Your senior year you decided to play football. I was ecstatic because you were coming back to play the game that you love,” said Lloyd’s mother, Sharon.
It took one season for the scouts to take notice. LaGrange College would be the winner.
The messages from his coaches, both football and basketball, were that Lloyd is an athlete first and foremost.
“He’s going to soar. Why you got that offer is people see the talent that ain’t really been uncorked. We all know that it’s not even hit the surface, said Juan Williams, LHS head football coach.
Lloyd was named to a 2024-2025 Alabama All-State team for basketball this season for his work in getting LaFayette to a regional championship.
The topic of conversation throughout this signing season was how the world of recruiting has changed. With the transfer portal, kids can start at a D2 or even JUCO school and can work up to a D1 school within a year. Lloyd’s coaches see this system as working for him.
“Somebody can see you in the LaGrange College and you can [get to] other places, Now you get the opportunity to play. Take advantage of it,” said Travis Carswell, LHS offensive coordinator. “There are over 5,000 kids in the portal right now that wish they had the opportunity to get a scholarship and you [have one]. Be blessed.”
The work is not over now that Lloyd has signed the paper. He has as high an expectation for himself as his coaches, family and friends do.
“[My goal] is to be a great player, be successful and hopefully make it to the league, he said.
