The Junior Variety Club of Valley is hosting a family-friendly event, Be The Light Day at Valley City Park, on Sunday, April 6, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. ET.

The specifics of the event may change should the bad weather predicted for the weekend stretch into Sunday afternoon. For any changes, please check the story on our website at valleytimes-news.com.

“What we’re really trying to do with this event is raise money for our scholarship that we give to a Chambers County graduating senior,” said Asley Emfinger, the club’s president.

AA’s Be The Light Scholarship is in memory of Amy Burton, a club member who passed away last year. Emfinger said, “Be the light,” was a phrase Burton would use often. After her passing, the club wanted to spread that light through a scholarship in her name.

The event will be held at Valley City Park. In recent years, the Junior Variety Club played a key role in getting the park new equipment through grant writing.

Food trucks will be on site for attendees to enjoy. Regardless of the weather, Emfinger says there will be a cake auction to raise money for the scholarship fund.

It is a free event, but donations to the fund are encouraged. Donations can be made to club member Kristin Nelson by way of PayPal (knelson67@gmail.com), Venmo (@Kristin-Nelson-1) or Cash App ($knelson67).
