Beulah softball cleared their first hurdle of the postseason easily. In the first round of the 3A Area playoffs, the Bobcats dominated the Glenwood Gators 7-1.
Beulah jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the second. A leadoff double by Madyson Snedigar put a runner in scoring position. Emmy Willingham knocked a double of her own to bring in the team’s first run of the game.
The Bobcats put the game to bed in the third inning, scoring five more runs. The inning started auspiciously with a four-pitch walk. Claire Dubose then hit a single, which was followed up by a Glenwood error to load the bases. A Kyleigh Morgan single scored two runs.
Clara Burke reached on an error, allowing Snedigar to score later in the inning. A fielder’s choice turned into an infield error, scoring the fifth run and another error made it 6-0.
Beulah tacked on one more run in the fifth inning thanks to another Glenwood error.
Glenwood struggled to get anything going offensively until the final frame. The Gators tried to mount a comeback in the seventh inning, when a single and a double got Glenwood a consolation run. However, the Bobcats’ defense saw the game out after that.
The Bobcats had a good day at the plate with eight hits. Morgan was the only batter to notch two hits in the game. She also led in RBIs with two.
Snedigar was superb from the mound, pitching a complete game and only allowing one run and four hits.
Beulah moved on to Game 2 of the tournament against Lee-Scott, later on Friday. The top-ranked teams were tied 3-3 in extra innings before the game was suspended on Friday night. The game against Lee-Scott will resume on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT, weather permitting.
