Chambers County is having a prescription drug take back event on April 18. From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., residents are encouraged to come out to the Valley Sportsplex to donate their unused and expired prescription drugs.
The event is hosted collaboratively by the Chambers County Drug Task Force and Integrea, a community mental health system. Throughout the event, there will be fun giveaways, food and a raffle.
Hosted by the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency), drug take back events are a response to the drug overdose epidemic in the United States. The goal is to encourage the public to remove unneeded or expired medications from the home and out of harm’s way.
In October 2024, the DEA reported:
Total Law Enforcement Participation: 4,425
Total Collection Sites: 4,644
Total Weight Collected: 629,953 lbs. (314 tons)
Total Weight All Time: 19,200,440 lbs. (9,600 tons)
