The LaFayette Bulldogs notched their first two wins of the season on Tuesday night in a doubleheader against Bullock County.

Game One: LaFayette 11, Bullock County 9

LaFayette walked off Bullock County in a Tuesday night thriller. The high-scoring three-inning game ended 11-9 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Bullock County stung first. They started the game with two baserunners after back-to-back hit by pitches. A double knocked in both runners for a quick lead. The runner then scored on an error to make it 3-0. Bullock would add one more in the half inning off of a sacrifice grounder.

Fortunately for LaFayette, Bullock’s defense had a similar start to the game. Two walks and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the first. Charlinda Watson would score on a passed ball only for K–Green to get hit by a pitch and load the bases once more. Makayla Mayfield would score on a steal of home. However, two runs would be all LaFayette could get out of the inning.

Both teams’ defensive missteps characterized the game. The Hornets scored two runs back and more in the second inning. Two walks and an error extended their lead to 6-2. Then, a double and fielder’s choice put the score to 8-2.

A single by Bullock County would bat in another run in the third going into the final half inning. LaFayette’s offense completed a Herculean effort for the win.

Two runners got on quickly on balls. A Chasidy Lewis Single batted in one run. Kacey Green would steal home and Caniyah Williams would ground out for two more runs. The inning saw Bullock County’s defense crumble with three walks and three errors. The final run came off of a dropped third strike on a wild pitch, allowing Green to cross the plate and walk it off.

Only two Bulldogs recorded hits, Deazia Avery and Lewis. The two also tallied an RBI, along with Mayfield, Kiyanna Williams, Eriyunna Holloway and Caniyah Williams.

Game Two: LaFayette 9, Bullock County 8

The second game was equally exciting as the Bulldogs once again came from behind to win, 9-8. An error and walk allowed for the Hornets to take an early lead. A single would put it at 3-0 for the visiting team after the first inning.

LaFayette’s bats woke up with two lead-off singles in the bottom of the inning. Watson struck first and good baserunning got her into scoring position. Mayfield batted her in with a grounder.

Following more errors by Bullock County, Lewis stole home and a dropped third strick allowed Holloway to score, tying the game 3-3 going into the second.

However, three errors by LaFayette gave Bullock County all of those runs back. The Hornets were up 6-3 in the second inning.

An error and three straight walks allowed for an easy fourth run for the Bulldogs. A big single by C–Williams tied it up again 6-6. Later in the inning, Holloway and Williams would score on a wild pitch to give LaFayette the lead for the first time in the game.

As is the theme of the day, Bullock County did not go quietly. Two hits put runners on and a ground out and error brought two homes, making it 8-8 going into the final frame.

LaFayette’s offense was the hero once again. An error off of an Avery ground ball was the final nail in the coffin, bringing Watson home for the ninth run.

Three Bulldogs had hits: Williams, Watson and Mayfield. In the second game, more players got in on the fun, with five players tallying RBIs.
