STANDING ROCK — From 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. EDT on Saturday, May 3rd, the Standing Rock Community Center will be hosting a semi-annual fish fry. The plates are $15 each, with proceeds going to the completion of the new center.

In addition to the fish plates, there will be cake sales, a raffle, and live entertainment. Everyone is invited to come out and see what’s been taking place at the new center. It’s located at 34799 County Road 278, not far from the main crossroads.

Construction on a new community center began in 2016. Fundraisers have played a big part in the continuing project. Almost $160,000 has been invested in it. In 2024, the Coosa Valley Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Council approved a $50,000 grant to help the project.

The community center will serve a number of purposes, such as being a command center for emergency police and fire operations, emergency sheltering, voting, community business, hosting community meetings, and serving as an event center for weddings and family reunions.
