“It’s that time of year again,” Valley Haven Executive Director Craig Brown told The Valley Times-News on Wednesday.
“We have a lot of items that will be going up for bids Friday evening. We are inviting everyone to be there. You can feel free to bid on an item or items you’d like to have or just sit back and watch all the goings on. We will have slices of pizza and drinks for everyone.”
The doors will open at 6 p.m. EDT on Friday for everyone to come in and see all the items that will be up for bids. The bidding will start at 6:30 ET. Former Valley Police Chief Tommy Weldon will be the auctioneer. State Senator Randy Price may be there as well.
Items to be sold include three guitars. One of them has been donated by Pawn City in Lanett. It’s a Seagull S6 valued at $600. Two other guitars were donated by individuals. One of them is a highly valued Les Paul.
Other items include an assortment of handbags filled with all kinds of needed items. There’s a 3-D printer with all the accessories, a Frigidaire ice makers Shop Vac donated by Marvin’s Hardware in Valley, a Stihl string trimmer (or weed eater) donated by Batson-Cook Hardware in West Point, a Burris rifle scope donated by Chambley’s in Valley, a really nice couch donated by Clark Interiors in Lanett, two tables with chairs donated by two individuals, and some other really nice furniture items people really need to see before the bidding starts.
There are some interesting and unusual antique items, well over 100 years old, that will be going to the high bidder.
“We have one item it’s really hard to find now,” Brown said. “It’s an old wash pot with the original legs and handles still on it. It’s hard to find one that’s in as good a condition that this one is in.”
There’s also an old hand-operated drill that dates to the 1800s.
“We have a radial arm saw with a blade,” Brown said. “It’s a pretty big blade. It’s the kind of artists like to paint landscapes on. We also have some hand saws, some power tools and a washing machine.”
There’s a foosball machine somebody will surely like to try out, a kerosene heater, some air compressors, and some of the birdhouses Charles Chapman is so good at making.
The Berry Global plant in Huguley (formerly Letica) has donated some of its plastic buckets as auction items. Three local tire businesses (Kenny Knox, Hester’s and West Point Tire) have donated gift certificates, and Knauf will be once again providing some insulation as an auction item.
The annual auction will start a very busy period to wrap up this year’s Hike/Bike/Run fundraiser. On Thursday, May 1st a Skate Night will be taking place at
The Skatin’ Rink on Fob James Drive. It’s sure to be a lot of fun and will be taking place between 6 and 9 p.m. EDT. At 5 p.m. on Friday, May 2nd, the annual Peach Walk will be taking place at the Georgia Visitor Center on I-85.
