The East Alabama Fire Department had to make a water rescue on Friday afternoon. The department, which is the main water rescue team in the area, was called out to the Riverview area of the Chattahoochee River to rescue two stranded fishermen, according to EAFD Chief Jacob Geiger.
The two men were stranded on a rock while fishing. According to Geiger, the pair had gone out before the water level rose, and when the West Point Dam released water, they became stuck. The rescue team was able to get to the men quickly, without any injury.
Geiger asks that anyone who plans to be out on the Chattahoochee River or West Point Lake be aware of the hydropower generation schedule before going out on the water. Generation schedules, which record when the dam is operational, give the water levels throughout the day. Call the West Point Lake offices at 706-645-2929 to get the daily generation schedule.
