LANETT — Saturday’s third annual Bobby G. Elmore Foundation Tournament was delayed for approximately an hour due to some heavy rain, but was completed by early afternoon on the Point University Golf Course. The heavy rain gave way to light showers, allowing play to continue.
A total of 14 teams took part in the four-player scramble with money being raised for a good cause. Everyone enjoyed the cooler weather, but the wet course did present some problems. The ball didn’t travel as far on drives down the fairways, and putting became an adventure, but everyone seemed to enjoy the day.
The four-man team of Kevin Miller, Bradley Eagle, Blake Jones and John J. Yancey placed first. Coming in second was the team of Leslie Meadows, Steven Powers, Ken Poole and Jon Morgan Poole. Francis Brumfield’s team finished third.
Winning contests for the longest drives were Jason Morgan and Ricky Wilson. Coming closest to the pins were Jacob Norred and Josh Hutchins.
A 501(c)3 nonprofit, the Bobby G. Elmore Foundation was founded in 2023 by the late Mr. Elmore’s son, Jared. It’s dedicated to helping good people on limited incomes improve their lives for the better.
Anyone who knew Bob Elmore when he was running the Sears store on Fob James Drive knew how generous he was in getting appliances for people in need but would have a hard time paying for them.
“He probably gave away more items than were paid for,” Jared Elmore said of his dad. “My dad was my best friend. What better way to honor his legacy than to have a foundation named after him.”
