Lura Lanier Edge, age 89, of LaGrange, Georgia, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025.
Born on May 14th, 1935, in West Point, Georgia, Lura was the daughter of Joseph L. Lanier and Lura Brown Fowlkes Lanier. She grew up in a close-knit community surrounded by family. She was named after her grandmother and mother, both Lura. She graduated from preparatory school at Mount Vernon in Washington, D.C., and went on to attend Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia, where she cultivated a lifelong love of learning.
On June 30th, 1956, Lura married the love of her life, Edward West “Ned” Edge, and together they built a beautiful life in LaGrange filled with family, faith, and enduring friendships.
She was so proud of her boys and loved traveling and sharing life with them and Ned. Their marriage was a true partnership that spanned nearly 70 years.
Lura is survived by her devoted husband Ned Edge, her beloved sister Anne Lanier Suttle, her cherished granddaughters Lura Moore (Jim) and Adah Edge, and her precious great-grandchildren Mollie Lanier Moore and James Bruce Moore III, who brought her endless joy.
Lura was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Joseph Lanier Jr., her two sons Edward W. Edge Jr. and Joseph Lanier Edge.
Lura will be remembered for her grace, warmth, and deep devotion to her family. She was a woman of quiet strength and steady kindness who touched the lives of all who knew her. She was deeply devoted to her church, where she served in many capacities, primarily the Flower Guild and St. Elizabeth’s Garden and Columbarium. She loved hosting parties for family and friends; if you happened to pop in for a visit, you could always count on Lura to have homemade cheese straws and a Coca-Cola waiting for you.
A celebration of Lura’s life will be held on May 17th, 2025, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church at 11 am, with Reverend Andrew Gordon officiating.
The family will be available at the reception immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth’s Garden and Columbarium at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church (207 N. Greenwood Street) or West Georgia Hospice (1510 Vernon Road).
