TIMING CHANGE: 12AM – 4AM CDT (1AM – 5AM EDT)
THREAT LEVEL FOR RISKS: MOST OF THE COUNTY IS NOW IN LEVEL 2 OUT 5 (YELLOW)
THE FAR SOUTHERN 3RD OF THE COUNTY REMAINS IN LEVEL 1 (GREEN/MARGINAL)
Update at 8:15 pm for the severe weather tonight. The timing has been slightly slower, with this graphic updated to reflect the expected arrival of storms. Tornadoes are possible, with strong tornadoes possible in the level 3 out of 5 threat area. Damaging winds up to 70 mph and large hail up to golf ball size are possible across the level 2 and 3 out of 5 areas, with slightly less confidence on those threats in the level 1 out of 5 threat area.
Stay weather alert through the evening and night. With these storms moving into and through much of the area after dark, it is especially important to make your safety plan (where to go, what to take, etc) before settling in for the night or going to sleep. Make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings!
And remember, all 10 of the NOAA Weather Radio Transmitters for Birmingham Weather Service are down for planned upgrades. So utilize wireless emergency alerts on your cell phone (default is set to on), download a free Weather app that will alert you (example: WTVM Weather app), local radio, news on tv or social media local news sources or reputable weather sources (refresh your browser often to stay up to date), or have a friend or family member call you should you receive a warning.
