The Valley Rams gave us a look at the 2025 Football Season as they wrapped up a productive 10 days of spring practice on Thursday evening with a scrimmage against Eufaula at Rams Stadium.
It was a chance for the staff to have some time before the summer to evaluate players and get an idea of the direction to go into the season. The scrimmage itself was a defensive battle as Eufaula was ahead 6-0 before they stopped keeping score to practice different situations and let the younger group of players play for both teams.
Going into the spring, the Rams had several holes to fill and new faces that needed to step up after losing two consecutive senior classes with a ton of experience. Those classes featured five players who have gone, or will be going, to a D1 college to play at the next level.
With a lot of shoes to fill, practices quickly focused on filling those needs and for the team to get a feel of each other. While observing a practice, you could see how physical these Rams play on both sides of the ball, which should be key for them going into the season and truly their strength.
As for the spring game, it was a defensive slug fest, which is typically what is expected in the spring, as most defenses are usually ahead of offenses at that
time. Both teams went back and forth without being able to get into the endzone until Eufaula was able to connect on a 13-yard pass late in the first quarter.
After a missed PAT, the score was 6-0, which is where it stayed for the rest of the part of the game that they kept score. For the rest of the scrimmage, both teams exchanged drives, working on different game situations, before giving way to a final running clock quarter featuring both teams’ JV squads.
“Throughout the spring, I have been pleased with how the guys were able to gel together and how hard they have practiced and played,” said Head Coach Adam Hunter. “We had a lot of holes to fill, and these guys have stepped up and given it all to come together in just a few practices.”
Standouts for the Rams during the game were Nikelen Linson and Mason Yarbrough, who were everywhere against the run all game defensively, and Kamarius Barber, who played a great game at cornerback and made an athletic interception in the second quarter. Offensively, Caden Foreman looked great commanding the offense at quarterback while making a few runs and throws.
