Wanda Hester Askew, age 73, of Langdale, Alabama, passed away peacefully in Lanett, Alabama on April 25, 2025.

Born on August 11, 1951, Wanda was known for her spirited nature and zest for life, laying a foundation of love and joy for those who were blessed to know her. Wanda’s career was deeply intertwined with the Valley Times News where she worked in the Circulation Department.

Her passion wasn’t limited merely to her work; Wanda was an avid collector of Coca-Cola memorabilia, finding delight in the hunt for vintage pieces. Her weekends were often spent scouring antique shops and enjoying shopping trips. Family was the cornerstone of Wanda’s world.

She is survived by her devoted children, son Thomas H. Askew, III (Shelby), and daughter, Brandi Askew Fincher (Terry). She embraced her role as a grandmother and later, great grandmother, with Harlie Alls (Kirby), Jaime Damiano (Tyler), Dallas Quinton (Brittney), Adelaide Wright (Lincoln), Hayden Quinton, and Kaylin Fincher, also leaving behind great-grandchildren, Rowynn, Jackson, Stella, Stevie, Rylee, and Bentley, who will all cherish her memory. Her loving brother, Ennis Hester (Pam), remains to honor Wanda’s legacy.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas H. Askew, Jr., her parents, Bud and Sara Hester, and her brother, Lyn Hester, Wanda’s life was a testament to enduring love and the simple joy of treasuring each moment.

Her memory will forever be remembered with warmth and exuberance in the hearts of those she has left behind.

Graveside services were held, Monday, April 28, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. (EST) at Johnson Memorial Gardens with Pastor Rusty Letson officiating.
