LAFAYETTE – Emily Milford has officially entered the race for the LaFayette City Council.  Milford will be running for the District A seat.

Milford is no stranger to politics, having grown up around the political arena, where she witnessed her father serve as a Chambers County District Judge for 20 years.

Starting at the local level, Milford believes she has much to contribute to the City of LaFayette—her experience includes working in the Governor’s Office as part of an internship, along with her background in education. The internship gave her an inside look at how procedures are handled in politics, providing her with insights she might not have gained otherwise. Her time in education sparked her interest in enhancing the city’s infrastructure for its youth.

After graduating from Auburn University in 2015, Milford worked as a school counselor at Chambers Academy for seven years, also teaching College and Career Development. She volunteers her time serving as co-chair for the Christmas committee in LaFayette, as well as working closely with Main Street LaFayette.

Her family enthusiastically supports the decision, claiming that she is following in her father’s footsteps by entering local politics. They view her involvement as an asset to the community and are excited to see how she will make a positive impact locally.

If elected, Milford plans to focus on youth development. She believes that LaFayette is taking progressive steps towards empowering its youth and is actively seeking ways to improve upon what has already been established, including enhancements to the Parks and Recreation department in LaFayette.

When asked about her favorite thing about LaFayette, Milford responded by noting that the City of LaFayette has a family environment, commenting on the spirit of togetherness and community.

“I’ve never really felt unsafe living in town,” Milford said. “Everybody sort of looks after each other. It’s a very good place to be and have a family.” She emphasized, drawing attention to the hometown feel that LaFayette offers its residents.

In her spare time, Milford enjoys reading quietly or venturing out to try new foods and traveling to restaurants in the surrounding areas that she has previously not tried.  Her spare time is not only filled with recreation, but also with work. Milford is continuing her studies at Faulkner University.
