The final student in our profiles of Lafayette High School’s top three graduates is the number one student in the Class of 2025: Skye Favors. Known for her positive energy and kind spirit, Favors was a beloved presence around campus. One sentiment echoed by many is just how much she will be missed. Her hard work and dedication were infectious.
Favors points to JROTC and science as her favorite subjects while she was in school. She loves science because there is always something new to learn. The draw to JROTC for her was all the opportunities to meet new people and have new experiences. It quickly became a big part of her high school experience and even featured the person she considers to be her favorite teacher.
“My favorite teacher was my JROTC instructor, Sergeant Campbell, because unlike most teachers, he makes you feel like you are your own unique person and he was hilarious to talk to and be around and he always made you feel safe.” Favors said about Campbell while also adding, “I was not in many clubs, just JROTC, and that was fine for me because I put all my work and effort into it. That paid off because I became Battalion Commander and that was an amazing experience!”
In the fall, Favors will attend Auburn University and plans to major in Biochemistry. She plans to use that degree to become an Anesthesiologist one day. She also likes that she is attending Auburn because she will be able to live at home and be with her parents; unlike some people that live off campus and end up missing their parents.
Though she’s looking forward to her future, Favors admits she will miss the fun she had in high school at JROTC events, football games, and the band.
In her spare time, Favors participates in church events and spends time with her family. She also enjoys painting and singing.
When asked about her inspiration, Favors mentioned her parents and their perseverance, “They both have health problems and to see them work so hard to be here and support me inspires me to be great and give it my all.”
