The West Point Recreation All-Star Baseball Teams played in the Georgia District 4 Little League Tournament in Peachtree City, GA from June 21-23. West Point was represented by the 10 & Under, 12 & Under, and 14 & Under teams. The three teams put on a good showing with one falling just short of winning the tournament.
The 14&U team split their games on Saturday to Peachtree City. The first game was won 15-5, while the second was lost 16-0. On Monday, they played once again for the championship against Peachtree City. In the final game, West Point was ahead 10-9 after 5 innings of play, but a late rally from Peachtree City in the final two innings had them coming up just short of a championship win.
“All three teams played very hard on a very hot day,” said George Greene of West Point Parks and Recreation. “The 10&U and 12&U teams were very young teams but never gave up and played very hard. The 14&U boys could have easily won the tournament if some breaks had gone their way.”
The 10&U and 12&U teams both lost two games on Saturday despite the good efforts from the two teams. The losses caused them to fall short of a Monday game. The teams showed promise for the future as they were less experienced than teams normally are at this point and still played extremely well. The way they performed will pay dividends in the future.
The West Point Recreation Department will now turn its attention to two tournaments that they will be hosting in the next couple of weeks; the 16&U Little League Softball state tournament on June 28-30 and the 10&U, 12&U, and 14&U Little League Softball state tournaments on July 5-9.
