LaFayette –– During this election cycle, Tammie Williams will be running unopposed for her seat in District E. Williams views her service to the city as a privilege and wishes to continue to serve the people to the best of her abilities.

Serving on the council for 25 years, she initially ran at the behest of her neighbors and family, who brought their issues to her. After she listened to their concerns, she decided that the best way to effect change in the city was to run for a seat on the council.

Williams loves the people of LaFayette and believes that the people are the best part of living there.

“There’s no other place in the world I’d rather be than LaFayette,” Williams said.

She feels that her work in social services enhances her effectiveness on the council.  The insights she receives from her daily interactions with the public serve as a benchmark for identifying areas where improvements can be made in the city.

She would like to see more job opportunities come to the city of LaFayette, which can provide people with better opportunities to thrive locally, and avoid having to seek employment outside the city limits.

More amenities for the elderly rank high on her priority list, as well as additional recreational programs for the city’s youth.

Reserving areas for public parks and creating active spaces where people can gather and interact are also important to her.

Williams’ family fully supports her efforts to remain on the city council. She credits her family as a motivational source while maintaining her status as a city council member.

“My daughter, she is my No.1 cheerleader now. My grandchildren are 100 percent behind me. So, my family – my sisters and my brothers, my nieces and nephews – they are all 100 percent behind me,” Williams said. “ They are very supportive.”
